Gold melt value guide

Gold is widely held as bullion and also appears in jewellery and coins. K&J Stack estimates melt value from the item’s weight, selected fineness and the current gold spot price.

Gold purity

Common gold fineness includes 999.9 (24 carat), 916 (22 carat), 750 (18 carat), 585 (14 carat) and 375 (9 carat). Carat describes how much of a 24-part alloy is gold.

Spot price vs. sale price

Bullion coins can trade above their metal value because of minting costs, demand and collectability. Jewellery and scrap may sell below theoretical melt value because a buyer may allow for refining, testing and operating costs.

How K&J Stack calculates value

The tracker converts grams, kilograms or troy ounces into troy ounces, multiplies the result by the selected purity, and then applies the current spot price. Currency conversion is used when GBP or EUR is selected.
